Photocopied papers of Frederick Charles Salomon, who immigrated from Prussia to Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1849; served in the Civil War as colonel of the 9th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment until his promotion to Brigadier General when he commanded troops in the defense of Helena, Arkansas; and later was appointed U.S. Surveyor General of the Utah Territory. These papers relate primarily to the Civil War years but contain biographical information and Salomon family genealogy as well as newspaper clippings about the memorial erected in Manitowoc to Frederick Salomon and his brother Edward who served as governor of Wisconsin, 1862-1864.

Edward Selig Salomon (December 25, 1836 – July 18, 1913) was a Prussian-born American politician, attorney, and lawyer. A member of the Republican Party, he notably served as the youngest alderman on the Chicago City Council from 1861 to 1863 and as Governor of Washington Territory from 1870 to 1872.
